Living space that meets all residents’ needs

Landmark Crossing at Southgate offers senior living with an indoor park, a theater, a pub, a game room, and onsite physical, occupational and speech therapy.

Converted from a hotel, Landmark Crossing will accommodate 100 assisted living rooms and 31 memory care units, as well as onsite adult day care from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

A culinary team creates personalized, delicious meals based on each resident’s dietary and lifestyle preferences. In fact, all programs at Landmark Crossing are crafted to each resident’s needs.

An indoor meeting space, called Central Park, includes a golf putting space, a fire pit and tables with umbrellas. The large windows and glass ceilings let the outdoor light pour in, with a stunning view of the outdoor courtyard.

Studio; one-bedroom, one bath; and two-bedroom, two-bath apartments are available.

Building has long history

Built in 1966, the building was The Presidential Inn until 1990, the Ramada Heritage Inn from 1990 to 1996, the Holiday Inn with Charley’s Chop House from 1996 to 2021, and finally Wyndham Gardens. Area residents were known to take advantage of overnight getaways and enjoy the large pool and game room.

While the pool will be eliminated to make room for the indoor park, the YMCA Downriver is next door and will be available for Landmark Crossing residents.

“We’re working on partnering with the Y to provide exercise classes at Landmark Crossing and our residents will be able to use their pools and other facilities with their membership,” said Lynn Yeager, Landmark Crossing executive director. “A variety of classes, activities, events, and programs will also be offered at Landmark Crossing.”

The assisted living residents will be offered daily activities, dining, housekeeping and, if necessary, assistance with medications and care needs. The memory support area is intended to cater to residents with cognitive impairment, including dementia and Alzheimer’s.

“Offering multiple levels of care permits for a resident to live in our assisted living while their spouse resides in memory support,” Yeager said. “Both residents residing in one community allows them to not only receive the benefits of care and programming in assisted living and memory support, but also remain close to one another.”

Big plans

Three former ballrooms will be converted into usable space for the residents. One will become a theater room with a concession area. Another is an exercise room, salon and barber shop, and will be used for physical, occupational and speech therapy, while the third area will be used as a large activity room for art, crafts, games, educational events and more.

The majestic chandeliers will remain but everything else has been revamped. Landmark Crossing is expected to open in June and Yeager is currently taking deposits. The first people to sign up will be entered into a Founder’s Club that includes rate locks as well as other bonuses and benefits.

Transportation will be provided for medical appointments, outings, and field trips. Yeager stressed the importance of residents bringing in their own items to make the rooms more comfortable and familiar.

“We encourage them to bring pictures and furniture to make it their home,” Yeager said. “This is such an amazing generation. We can learn so much from them and it’s really quite an honor to work here.”

Managed by Distinctive Living, Landmark Crossing is taking applications for all positions from dietary to administration, housekeeping, and concierge.
