It happens every year. The first Monday of the new year you can’t find an open parking space at the local gym or fitness center because everyone has decided this is the year to get in shape. But by February 1 there are plenty of places to park because the enthusiasm for a healthy new you has gone off the road.
Maybe this year is the time for a different approach. And there is no reason to wait until January 2.
D1 Training, a leading fitness enrichment concept utilizing the five core tenets of athletic-based training, opened its new Novi location on October 20 and is already making an impact for athletes of all ages.
This isn’t a place where you get a membership, stroll in a few times a week and walk on a treadmill. D1 combines coaching, family, community and commitment into one philosophy that helps you reach your goals – whether it’s to make the varsity team, play your sport at the highest level or just to get you stronger, healthier and happier in your life.
Modeled after Division 1 strength and conditioning principles, D1 Novi is one of the first locations in Michigan and joins a growing lineup of around 150 training centers in the country. Husband-and-wife duo Osi and Ann Aniakudo join a roster of impressive existing franchisees, including professional athletes like Kylie Fitts and Jordan Gay, with additional D1 partners including NBA star Chris Paul and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow.
“As former athletes ourselves, we understand the many benefits sports offer both on and off the field,” Ann said. “It’s not just about becoming a better athlete – it’s about the life lessons you learn along the way. Those lessons shape you for the future and build the confidence to succeed in whatever lies ahead. We can’t wait to help members of our community start their fitness journey and discover what they’re truly capable of.”
D1 Training offers four age-based programs including Rookie (ages 7-11), Developmental (ages 12-14), Prep (ages 15-18) and D1 Adult. Each fitness program is based on the five athletic-based tenets: dynamic warm-up, performance, strength program, core and conditioning, and cool down. Outside of group workouts, D1 Training offers group, semi-private and one-on-one training with world-class coaches.
The first step begins with discovering exactly where you want this journey to take you, defining your fitness and health goals and putting a plan together that will last a lifetime and not just a couple months at the beginning of the year.
“Our plans are very personalized and it’s really important to understand what the goals are so we can help you achieve them,” Ann said. “We offer personal training, class packages and memberships so we have an option that's not only going to help you meet your goals but should meet your budget as well.”
The goal is simple: to continue to train athletes who are dedicated to their sport or fitness goals, regardless of age or athletic background.
“We are the place for the athlete, and an athlete is anyone with a fitness goal,” Osi said. “So whether you're an adult who just wants to get back into shape or you're a teenager who wants to play at the next level we offer custom programming to meet your needs.”
