Check out this one-of-a-kind Winter Solstice experience with West Bloomfield Parks! Stroll our enchanting trail and take in the magic of the winter season here in Michigan. Join us December 18 at the Recreation Activities Center, with timeslots beginning at 5 p.m.

Enjoy a self-guided trail walk with interactive nature stops along the way. Learn about the quiet world of winter nature from our naturalists, and don’t forget to bring a lantern or flashlight for this magical, nocturnal hike! After your walk, make sure to do bit of stargazing with telescope viewing available from the Oakland Astronomy Club, and don’t forget to warm up around the fire with marshmallow roasting.

New this year, our Winter Solstice event has been updated with several indoor activities as well. Take a break from the blustery temps and stop inside the Recreation Activities Center for even more fun. Get creative and make your own glowing craft, and then take a walk on the wild side and learn about wildlife with special live animal encounters provided by Avian Experience.

Of the event, Naturalist Lauren Azoury shared:

“Being on the trails after dark is a magical and memorable experience. Nature has something unique to offer in the winter months that I hope many in our community can come out and experience during our Winter Solstice event.”

WB Parks is excited to offer a new a new spin on this classic community event.

“The combination of indoor and outdoor activities this year allows for even more fun including meeting live birds of prey, which are very majestical creatures,” Azoury remarked.

Make sure to dress for Michigan’s winter while you learn about Michigan’s winter and wear your favorite hiking boots! Hiking poles will also be available for use on a first-come-first-served basis. Please note the 5 p.m. timeslot will not be completely dark and is recommended for our youngest participants.

Don’t miss out on the most magical night of the year and grab your spot today! Registration is required for all participants by December 16. Light up your winter and join in the Solstice celebration by visiting wbparks.org/winter-solstice.
