“I don’t think we are anything special, we are just hard-working people who try to do what’s right,” said Jack Demmer, founder of Jack Demmer Automotive Group. “If you take care of your customers, they will take care of you.”

Sounds pretty simple. And it was for Demmer because he truly cared about his customers and it was this philosophy and the way he built his business that helped create what is known today as “The Demmer Difference.”

Demmer grew up around cars in the 1930s, and his father, Charles Joseph Demmer, sold used cars from their family home on 14th Street in Detroit. At age 16, Jack sold his first car – a 1935 Ford Coupe for $135. His experiences with his father helped turn the key on a career not only selling cars and trucks but also creating one of the premier dealerships in southeast Michigan.

Jack Demmer passed away in 2017, but the family-owned business has remained exactly that with his sons, Bill and Jim, taking over the automotive group. And to understand the present and future requires a trip to the past, because that’s where “The Demmer Difference” was built – Ford tough!

Jack Demmer and Jimmy Spitler opened Spitler-Demmer Edsel in September 1957 in a former gas station with a one-car showroom. It was located in Nankin Township, at the corner of Glenwood and Wayne Road. In the fall of 1969 they moved to the present location on Michigan Avenue in Wayne. In March of 1975 Spitler-Demmer Ford became Jack Demmer Ford.

More than 50 years since its origination, the Jack Demmer Automotive Group is still family owned and operated (three generations) today and the team sells a 2024 Bronco Sport Big Bend SUV 4x4 the same way Jack sold that 1935 Ford Coupe – just with a little bit higher price tag.

“Jack’s main goal was to take care of the customer and even though he is no longer with us, his vision is still as clear as when he was present,” said General Sales Manager Eric Preece. “The family has stood behind his business plan and always makes it paramount to do what’s needed to help the customer.”
