Every day at work, Mario Savone keeps a photo of his late father, Luigi, on his computer screen – a constant reminder of the life lessons his dad implemented in him. Those lessons of integrity, trust, hard work, commitment, and family became the foundation upon which Mario built Savone Cement into a thriving, well-respected company based in Allen Park.
“I lost a big part of my heart when my dad passed, but I feel he is always with me,” Mario shared. “He was my inspiration and taught me so many valuable lessons that I still live by today. My dad was smart and hardworking, and he instilled in me that same work ethic.”
For the past 25 years, Mario has carried that family-first philosophy into the workplace, creating a sense of community that has been the blueprint for Savone Cement’s success.
“I firmly believe in taking care of my employees, and together we maintain a strong business relationship,” he said. “If I succeed, we succeed.”
Mario credits his dedicated team, including Donna Vallar, who handles countless tasks behind the scenes, and longtime employees Steve Sabo, Fernando Flores, Manuel Ortega, William Rivera, Damian Surma, Jose Enciso and Martin Garcia – who has been with him since the very beginning.
As president, Mario has expanded Savone Cement and continues to exceed expectations through hard work and pride in a job well done. He dedicates this success to his father, Luigi, and his uncle Francesco.
The brothers originally started doing side jobs in 1985 while working full-time at Great Lakes Steel (Luigi) and General Motors (Francesco). Mario, meanwhile, was a three-sport athlete at Cabrini High School (Class of 1998), later playing college football and earning two degrees from Grand Valley State University.
“I started working with my dad as a young man, which inspired me to incorporate Savone Cement, Inc. in 2009,” Mario said.
Sadly, Luigi passed away in 2010 at the age of 56, before witnessing the company’s growth. His brother Francesco was only 57 when he passed away.
Today, Savone Cement, Inc. is a leader in residential and commercial concrete work. Fully licensed and insured, the company delivers high-quality products at affordable prices using modern technology. Their services include driveways, patios, porches, sidewalks, commercial projects, city streets, foundations, underground work, hauling, and even snow removal.
In 2016-17, Savone Cement began working with the City of Allen Park. By 2018, they were awarded the city’s street project and have been paving Allen Park roads ever since.
“It has been an honor and privilege to work with such a great city,” Mario said. “We have a wonderful partnership.”
Family remains Mario’s greatest source of strength. “My wife, Jennifer, stands by my side through it all,” he said. Together they are raising two daughters, Adriana (11) and Nina (9). Mario also credits his parents, Angela and Luigi, his sisters Maria and Teresa, and his younger brother Anthony for their unwavering support.
“My family believes in the power of family – and that’s what life is all about,” Mario said. “I am fortunate and grateful to have a family at home and at work."
