RENOVATIONS REFLECT COMMUNITY NEEDS
By Steve Archibald

I’m thrilled to share that our brand-new competition pool at South Lyon High School now features eight lanes and a separate dive well, allowing for both swimming and diving events to take place simultaneously – a major step forward in flexibility and functionality. This upgrade gives us the ability to host larger competitions beyond simple dual meets, something our previous facility couldn’t accommodate.
When the original pool was installed at SLHS back in 1989, it was a state-of-the-art, six-lane competition pool that served our students and community well for many years. At the time, its size was more than adequate. However, as our programs have grown and the needs of our students and community have evolved, we recognized that a larger and more versatile aquatic facility was essential.
But the improvements don’t stop there. In addition to the main competition pool, we now have a
smaller, more accessible pool space featuring a ramped entry and a shallower, three-lane area. This space has been thoughtfully designed to support recreational use, special education programming and our Center for Active Adults. Both pools are equipped with independent systems, allowing us to maintain separate temperatures based on the unique needs of each group.
Another exciting upgrade is the locker room facilities. We've also added family-style cabana locker rooms for easy pool access, along with public lockers in each area for convenience.
We also listened to feedback from our community regarding spectator experience. Previously, there were no restrooms on the second level – but with the renovation, we’ve added both men’s and women’s restrooms near the grandstands. Spectator seating has nearly doubled in size, growing from 260 to 480 seats, providing a much more comfortable and accommodating space for fans and families.
Lastly, we’re proud to introduce a brand-new multi-purpose room — a 2,000-square-foot space that connects our upgraded grandstands with the existing fitness center. This new addition is not only functional but also provides new opportunities for programming, meetings and community use.
These renovations reflect our ongoing commitment to meeting the needs of our students, athletes and greater school community. We’re proud of how far we've come and excited about the opportunities this new facility will provide for years to come.
