After 50 years, the Historical Society of South Lyon is still going strong and moving forward.
Our biggest goal is to add a barn to our historic village. Plans are starting to come together and donations to this project continue to come in. We thank everyone who has contributed and supports this venture with us.
If you attended our recent "Roper Barn" fundraiser, you probably enjoyed our CAD drawings, model frame barn and the wonderful mostaciolli dinner that we served, along with the good music.
The village and museum opened for the season on Sunday, May 4. We welcome the community to come and explore the buildings and displays depicting our early history from years gone by.
We are excited to announce that the society is once again offering the Little Village Chapel for weddings and small memorial services. All proceeds from these events will go toward our barn project. The one-room school is available for use to local schools and schoolchildren.

Upcoming events for 2025 at the village include our Third Annual Book Exchange on Friday, May 30, to Sunday, June 1. On Wednesday night, June 18 at 7 p.m., please join us in the Freight House as we present “A Night with the Schroeder Sisters”, featuring Barbara Clark-Greene and Dorothy Tennant. You won’t want to miss this evening. It will be filled with family history, city history and plenty of stories about growing up in South Lyon.
We have also started planning for our 44th Annual Depot Day event, to be held on Saturday, September 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a day filled with lots of activities for the family and we could use some extra help in planning and organizing this event. We have the Peddle Pullers coming again, along with the model trains in the Freight House, bake sale, crafts for the kids, and so much more. Back by popular demand is the “Age of Communication” display in the Chapel.
Like to garden?
In order to keep our Memorial Garden bed in picture-perfect condition, we are looking for volunteers to help weed, clip and divide some of the flowers that are taking over. This project gives you some outside activity, sunshine and friendly camaraderie. There’s never a dull moment in the garden!
If you would be interested in volunteering for any of these events, or would like to become a member of the society, you can contact us at (248) 437-9929. Follow us on our web page: www.SLAHS.net, or on our Facebook page: South Lyon Area Historical Society.
