Heroes fight fires, also fly helicopters into dangerous territory

Robert Casamatta, who spent 10 years in the Marines before joining the Northville Township Fire Department in 2023, is a beloved firefighter/paramedic. Not ready to give up serving his country, he is a member of the National Guard, where he currently flies a Blackhawk medevac helicopter whenever the military needs him.

Casamatta credits Northville Township’s flexibility and its commitment to its staff as the reason he continues to share his pilot skills with the military and balance his family life and fire duties.

In gratitude, Casamatta nominated Northville Township for two Department of Defense awards. The township won them. Casamatta recently presented the Above and Beyond Award, a prestigious state award, to the Board of Trustees, and the Patriotic Employer Award to Township Manager Glenn Caldwell, who previously was the human resources director, for providing “an exceptional level of support” to our National Guard and Reserve employees.

Casamatta is also an ambassador for Outdoor Driven, a veteran’s organization that takes first responders and veterans and connects them with the healing outdoors.

Northville Township is fortunate to have someone like Robert Casamatta serving its residents, and it appreciates the recognition from the state!
