While most restaurants and bars struggled during the COVID shutdown in 2020, Jad and Joe Sayah saw it as an opportunity to fulfill a longtime dream of opening a unique and intimate craft lounge in Plymouth. So, they went to work.

The Sayah brothers had operated a banquet center in the space on Ann Arbor Road for several years. During the shutdown, they decided to do a full renovation remodel to create a place and atmosphere that focused on curating an enhanced experience, featuring a full menu derived from elevated, handcrafted cocktails and a full dining menu.

They opened The Bartisan in March 2024, with the spotlight on a modern menu and a wide selection of beer, wine and specialty drinks – all presented in a warm and cozy setting.

“We take pride in providing exceptional service and care to every guest who joins us.” Jad said. “We focus on our craft cocktails and our excellent full-dinner menu. Many of the items on our menu we created from scratch, and it's not something you can find down the street or across town.”

From delicate bites to bold creations including shareables (try the philly steak quesadillas), flatbreads, burgers, sandwiches, salads and entrees, The Bartisan menu is meticulously designed to ignite your palate and set the stage for an unforgettable experience.

And whether you savor the rich complexities of a fine wine or delight in the robust character of a carefully selected beer, their dedication to the art of mixology ensures a truly indulgent journey for any palate.

For example, their impressive bourbon collection features Elmer T. Lee, the W.L. Weller lineup, George T. Stagg, selections from Pappy Van Winkle, and many other premium labels.

The Bartisan – the name comes from the word “artisan” but with a “b” for bar – seats approximately 120 people, including an outdoor patio that opened last year.

“Our restaurant attracts a diverse group of guests, from families and couples to anyone looking to enjoy a great meal, live entertainment or watch sports in a lively atmosphere,” Joe said. “We feature a wide variety of free live entertainment, including dueling piano shows, jazz bands, comedy nights, and live music from different genres.”

Joe began his restaurant career washing dishes at a Novi restaurant while in high school. He went to Eastern Michigan University and was interested in becoming a dentist, but nothing made him smile more than working in a restaurant so he turned his attention to owning his own business.

“I always had a passion for restaurants,” he said.

The brothers, who both graduated from Novi High School, were always locked in the Plymouth area for this unique setting.

“We know the area and we live in Plymouth and we are part of the community,” Joe said. “The business community and residents of Plymouth have been wonderful to work with. We strongly believe in giving back to the community, as Plymouth is our home.”

The Bartisan is the ideal spot for banquets and private events. And in the coming months, it plans on offering Sunday brunch and expanding its hours to meet the demands of the customers.

“We can accommodate private parties and gatherings of many sizes,” Joe said. “We take pride in taking care of our guests and have the flexibility to arrange the space to create the perfect setting.”

The Bartisan is located at 1065 Ann Arbor Road in Plymouth. For more information, call (734) 359-3694 or visit thebartisan.com. Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are always welcome. To see the schedule for upcoming live entertainment, visit thebartisan.com/events.
