Woman’s donation to senior center results in purchase of new Transit Van

Margaret “Midge” Tucker might not be a name easily recognized around Taylor anymore.
Margaret, 95, passed away on August 6, 2023. She outlived her husband Merle and siblings Matthew, Martin, Joseph, Mary, Ann, Sophie and Agnes. Margaret was born on September 13, 1927 in Lacombe, Alberta in Canada. She graduated from the Ontario Hospital Whitby School of Nursing in 1954 and worked many years at Wayne County General Hospital in Eloise, MI, as a psychiatric nurse.
She retired from Wayne County General all the way back in 1981, but continued her nursing career at Wyandotte Hospital until 1990. She volunteered for many years at the William Ford Senior Activities Center, conducting blood pressure checks when she wasn’t playing golf or attending concerts by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
But Margaret Tucker’s legacy lives on.
We were reminded of that last month, when Mayor Tim Woolley, Clerk Cindy Bower, Senior Services Manager Lori Runkle along with some members of the center introduced a brand new Ford Transit Van – courtesy of none other than the late Mrs. Tucker.
As it turned out, after Midge ended a lengthy career, she left a large amount of money to the facility, the result of which was this new van.
We’re sure Margaret Tucker is smiling down on this little story. We’re sure that the center and its seniors will put the new vehicle to good use.
The new van isn’t the only improvement that the seniors will see. The parking lot has been completely resurfaced. Also on the schedule is interior painting and improved fencing around the facility. The City also plans to replace the freezer in the food-preparation area. These improvements are all being done through Tax Increment Finance Authority funding.
