Family brings a taste of Lebanon right into the heart of the community

Located at 20524 Ecorse Road, which some might know as the old A&W, Taylor Kabob has become one of the community’s most cherished family-owned eateries.
Since opening its doors in 2017, the restaurant – led by owner and head chef Haidar Hachem – has introduced authentic Mediterranean flavors to the community, offering residents a dining experience rooted in tradition, passion and family.
Originally from Lebanon, Haidar brings over 20 years of culinary experience to his kitchen. Before moving to the United States, he spent over 10 years refining his skills in Austria, gaining exposure to diverse European techniques while staying true to his Lebanese roots.
After arriving in the U.S., he continued to build on that foundation. He eventually co-owned a successful restaurant in Flint, but when the Flint water crisis forced that location to close, Haidar and his family sought a new beginning. They chose Taylor – a community that, at the time, lacked many Mediterranean options – and quickly found a welcoming home.
Taylor Kabob is truly a family operation. Haidar’s two sons, Hassan and Ray, work evenings and weekends, while his wife, Fatima, can be found greeting customers, taking orders and handling carry outs during the day. Together, they create a warm, inviting atmosphere that keeps regulars coming back.
The restaurant’s menu is one of its greatest strengths. While the flavors speak for themselves, it’s the pride and care behind every dish that makes Taylor Kabob stand out. Not only are the dishes flavorful and carefully crafted, but Taylor Kabob is also known for being affordable and generous with portions, offering customers exceptional value.
Customer favorites like the Chicken Fattoush have earned loyal fans, while the family’s own top pick – the Mixed Grill – showcases a delicious variety of textures and flavors.
Over the years, the Hachem family has continued to evolve their business, updating their space, refreshing their menu and partnering with DoorDash, Grubhub and Uber Eats to reach more customers both inside and outside the city.
For now, Haidar says there are no immediate plans to expand. The goal is simple: continue serving quality food and heartfelt service to the community that has embraced them. As Taylor Kabob moves forward, one thing is certain: Their story is still being written, one plate at a time.
Taylor Kabob is open Mondays through Fridays 10:30 a.m.–9 p.m. and Saturdays noon–8 p.m. It is closed on Sundays. For more information, call (734) 722-4499.
