Ongoing Programs

Budding Bookworms: Every Wednesday morning

A weekly Storytime with Miss Ashley to each early literacy to the littlest of bookworms!
Toddlers: 0-3 years at 10 a.m.
Preschool: 3-5 years at 11 a.m.

Literacy Littles: First Saturday @ 10:30 a.m.

Led by Miss Ashley, this book club will explore the superpower of reading by focusing on a new book each month. Our focus is on building independent reading confidence for children in grades K-2. Registration required.

Well-Read Wanderers: Third Saturday @10:30 a.m.

A book club to expand on young readers' love of reading. Intended for grades 3-5. Registration required.

LEGO Club: Fourth Monday @ 6:30 p.m.

Teen Writers Group: First Wednesday @ 6 p.m.

Ages 12-17. Aspiring teen writers will meet up to work on their craft, share with their peers and gain helpful insight from local author Holly Ash, who will be attending the sessions! New members are always welcome.

Jurassic Discovery Tour – Passive Program June 1-6

An opportunity for children to imagine being a paleontologist and learn about several species of dinosaurs while exploring the library space. *This selfpaced program is a passive program that will be set up around the library.

Dinosaur Diamond Art – Thursday, June 11 @ 2 p.m.

Ages 5-plus. We start Summer Reading with a relaxing craft of Dinosaur Diamond Art to get you in the summer mood!

Crazy Craig Juggling – Thursday, June 18 @ 2:30 p.m.

All ages. A high energy show full of comedy, audience participation, amazing juggling, tricks on various size unicycles, and balancing acts.

Miss Lucy Goose's Silly Saurus Show! – Thursday, June 25 @ 2 p.m.

Intended for toddler/preschool ages. Stomp, roar and explore with Miss Lucy Goose and her Silly Saurus!

MythCrackers: Common Animal Myths – Thursday, July 9 @ 2 p.m.

All ages. This program addresses common wildlife myths. *Live Animals*

Dinosaur Bubble Dig – Thursday, July 16 @ 2 p.m.

Ages 3 to 10. A 45-minute show where kids dance through bubbles to uncover dinosaurs of all sizes! Plus, a hands-on dino egg excavation craft where children can dig for their own dinosaur. This program includes a Dino egg and birth certificate for each child!

STEM: Cookie Excavation – Thursday, July 23 @ 2 p.m.

Ages 6-plus. Have fun uncovering artifacts like an archaeologist by carefully excavating chocolate chips from a cookie while using an excavation grid.

Adult Summer Reading Program: Unearth a Story! June-July

Adults look forward to summer reading as much as kids do! Relax, take a book (physical or digital) with you on vacation and catch up on your TBR list. Please check our website and online Events Calendar for details on our reading challenge and summer programs for adults.

Nature on Your Doorstep: Exploring Grosse Ile’s Conserved Lands – Tuesday, June 16 @ 6-7 p.m. Dr. Paul Gloor, president of the Grosse Ile Nature and Land Conservancy, will guide attendees through the island’s remarkable natural areas – wetlands, woodlands, prairies, and shoreline habitats that many residents have never fully explored. The presentation highlights which preserves are open to the public, what makes a few key sites ecologically special and how decades of citizen action protected these landscapes from development. Participants will also learn about the local and regional organizations that now steward these natural areas for future generations

Daughters of the American Revolution: Free Genealogy Workshop – Saturday, June 20 @ 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The DAR will help you research your family tree on a one-to-one basis. Come and get help from the volunteer assistants, who have learned the hard way, how to begin or move forward in your research. The workshop is open to anyone, regardless of age, who is interested in learning about their family tree. You are welcome to attend the workshop at any time throughout the session. Fiction Writing Workshop: Know Your Characters; Know Your Story – Saturday, June 27 @ 2-3 p.m.

Please join published romance author, Donna Kanso(writing as DK Marie) for this fiction writing workshop. She will cover the importance of knowing your characters and why you should know them before writing your first draft. She will discuss wounds, flaws and motivations of characters and share tips, tricks and books on character development. She will also share some of character writeups she’s done for her recent book release. Registration requested. This program is for adults.

Stay Sharp kits are a wonderful resource for adults (and the caregivers of adults) who are experiencing memory loss and other cognitive issues related to dementia, Alzheimer's disease and other memory disorders.
