For parents of young children, nothing beats a place where little ones can laugh, play and learn in an environment that’s welcoming, safe and clean. Mandee’s Funtastic Play Center, located at 20372 Van Horn Road in Woodhaven, has been a community staple for years, offering children a place to play and parents peace of mind.

With a large soft play area and a two-story padded playscape, Mandee’s Funtastic is the perfect place for kids to interact with others and work together to build, play and use their imaginations.

Originally part of a franchise, Funtastic first opened nearly 18 years ago. In 2017, the franchise dissolved and each location had the opportunity to become independently owned.

During COVID, the play center was shut down and former employee, Mandee Collins, purchased the business in 2021, changing its name and reopening it for the community to enjoy again.

“My goal was to reopen the indoor playground because I missed all my little friends,” Collins laughed.

She refers to Funtastic as “Downriver’s little hidden gem” because there aren’t many places in the community that are zoned for play areas.

Catering primarily to children aged 8 and under, the facility is especially toddler-friendly, with colorful soft play structures and sensory-friendly features.

In addition to the indoor playscape, Mandee’s Funtastic has a café that overlooks the play area. Equipped with tables, booths and a couch area, free wifi is also available so adults can relax or work while keeping an eye on their kiddos.

While parents are responsible for looking after their children during playtime, employees are around to monitor the play area and ensure protocol is being followed, with safety at the forefront.

Mandee’s Funtastic Play Center is not only a popular destination for families during their daily open play hours and toddler time for kids 2 and under on Wednesday mornings, but it’s also a go-to spot for field trips and private parties.

For birthday celebrations, which are held on Saturdays and Sundays, families can rent out the entire facility including play areas, the party room and the café for the duration of their party.

“The only people who will be there during parties are those invited and your party hosts who help you have fun,” Collins said.Beyond being a place to play, Mandee’s Funtastic Play Center is actively involved with supporting the Downriver community.

From adopting families each Christmas to participating in food drives and trunk-or-treats and donating to Downriver for Veterans, Downriver Foster Closet and other local charities, Collins is passionate about giving back to the community that has been there for her.

“We try to be a part of the community that we live in because we can’t do anything without the support of everyone who comes here,” she said. “I feel like smaller businesses are what keeps the community thriving and together.”

The community connection is one of Collins’ favorite things about running a small business and she looks forward to building new relationships as Mandee’s Funtastic Play Center continues to thrive by bringing joy to children and parents alike.
