
The 2025-2026 school year has featured unforgettable athletes and sports performances at Roosevelt High School, highlighted by a girls basketball district title, two undefeated bowling seasons, an inaugural flag football season that ended in a league title, and multiple individual state qualifying athletes and a figure skating state title.
During the fall, the boys cross country team finished second in the Downriver league, and the girls finished third. Regional qualifiers and state finalists included junior Noah Amori, freshman Emma Puscas and senior Eleanor Grant. Grant was a state finalist in all four years of her cross country career. The other fall sport state qualifier was diver Joanna Miciura, who also was the league champion.
The highlight of the winter season was girls basketball, bowling and figure skating. Girls and boys bowling both finished with a 17-0 record, and combined for four state qualifiers – as sophomores Malachi Attard and Keegan McClain, junior Madison Dufault and senior Ellie Isenegger all competed in the state finals.
On the court, girls basketball went 10-6 in the DRL tying for third, but finished the year with a district championship lead by senior all-league athletes Emma Jordan and Annie Zieger. And the figure skating team C became the state champions, featuring Sophia Francetich, Adriana Dionisis, Alexis Zuziak, and Rebecca Kubiak.
Also in winter, boys hockey finished 17-11-1, tied for first at the Metro West Conference, and was a regional finalist lead by three all-league juniors – Eli Harrel, Ethan Ivity and Evan Kelly.
The competitive cheer team earned a trip to regionals, finishing second in the MHSAA district, and Robotics made a playoff round at Chelsea, with a record of 3-1.
In the pool, sophomore Brendan Miciura broke the school record in the 100 backstroke, with a time of 55.08 seconds. Miciura and senior diver Eli Shimko earned All-State honors, and were two out of four who qualified for state finals. The other state finals boys swim qualifiers were junior Keegan Simmons and sophomore Andy Bowers.
The spring season was highlighted by the softball team who earned a Downriver League record of 13-2, 21-9 overall with MHSAA districts that began May 30.
Boys and girls rowing varsity four seats both finished first at the Hebda Cup, while on the track, two male athletes qualified for states: junior Noah Amori in the 3200 M and junior Malik Daniels in the long jump. Daniels also earned the school’s record in long jump with a distance of 21 feet, 11-and-a-half inches on his way to becoming the regional champion.
Girls tennis finished the regular season with an undefeated record, and placed first and second at every tournament, and second at regionals. Number-one doubles seniors Rylie Hawkins and Annie Zieger finished as regional champs. The team qualified for state finals.
A new addition to the spring was the inaugural girls flag football team, who won their league and participated in the state finals at Ford Field. To finish off the year, an unprecedented three seniors were awarded Athlete of the Year honors: Emma Jordan (varsity volleyball, basketball, softball,) Annie Zieger (varsity volleyball, basketball, tennis) and Sean Hickey (varsity tennis and basketball.)
We are proud of all that our athletes accomplished this year, and we look forward to continuing that excellent in the 2026-27 school season!
