Jeremy Christianson’s “roots” in landscaping began as a summer job while attending college. After several years of working outdoors, he ended up changing his major to make a career in the green industry. This decision proved to be a good choice after discovering a passion and skill for creating unique gardens and entertaining spaces for people.

Christianson is the owner of Michigan Landscape Design Services, a landscape design and consultation company serving southeast Michigan since 2004.

The company’s focus is to create landscape solutions that support the lifestyle and function needs of each client. The design is then brought to life using a team of well-trained craftsmen who share the same passion and quality standards. Christianson’s green industry journey began back in 1993.

“I worked in the landscape industry while in college and ended up going to Michigan State, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture and Landscape Design,” said Christianson, who also is a certified professional landscape designer from the Association of Professional Landscape Designers and a Michigan Certified Nurseryman. “I started Michigan Landscape Design Services shortly thereafter so I could work with not only homeowners but with business owners and other landscape contractors who needed assistance in creating a professional landscape design. After several years, demand for installation services grew rapidly. It was at this time that we teamed up with several talented companies who still continue the installation work while I handle the design side.”

Christianson, who is involved in the entire process from start to finish, works with the home or business owners one-on-one to ensure that he sees their project through to the end. The process of creating that dream space is a team effort.

“I will meet with the client and review the site and discuss their wants and needs,” Christianson said. “At that time I will also share my thoughts regarding their property. “We go over what other clients have done with similar sites in the past, discuss material options as well as the costs associated with those selections. After the initial review, we then put together a comprehensive, drawn-to-scale design plan that shows all the options we discussed. Finally, we create a budget to manage the financial side of the installation.”

Christianson said when a landscape is designed by a professional the plan becomes a direct reflection of the client’s style, taking into consideration the site, architectural style of the home and the impacts on the surrounding environment.
