Dear Woodhaven-Brownstown School District Families,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year!

It is with tremendous excitement and gratitude that I welcome both our returning families and those joining the Woodhaven-Brownstown School District community for the first time. As superintendent of schools, I am honored to serve this district and look forward to partnering with you throughout another year of learning, growth and opportunity.

At WBSD, our mission remains clear: to Engage, Empower, and Enlighten every student. That mission continues to guide our work as we create exceptional experiences and opportunities for all learners. Our commitment is to provide each student with a safe, inclusive, challenging, and supportive environment where they can grow academically, socially, emotionally, and personally.

As we begin this new school year, we remain focused on preparing students not only for success in the classroom but for success in life. We believe every student deserves meaningful opportunities, strong relationships and experiences that inspire curiosity, leadership and a sense of belonging.

Over the last several years, our community has made a signi cant investment in our schools through the 2021 bond program, and we continue to see the impact of that work across the district. Improvements to learning spaces, building infrastructure, safety enhancements, and instructional environments have strengthened our ability to serve students today while preparing for tomorrow.

This summer, teams across the district worked diligently to prepare our schools for opening day. From facility improvements and technology upgrades to classroom enhancements and continued investments in student programming, our staff has remained focused on creating environments where students can thrive.

Safety continues to be our highest operational priority. Woodhaven-Brownstown School District maintains a comprehensive and proactive approach to school safety through strong partnerships with the Woodhaven and Brownstown police departments, dedicated school resource of cers, secured entry systems, visitor management protocols, emergency preparedness procedures, regular safety drills, crisis response planning, and advanced communication systems.

In addition, the district continues to strengthen our school safety practices through ongoing staff training, implementation of our wearable crisis alert system, coordinated emergency planning, and continuous review of procedures to ensure safe, orderly and welcoming learning environments for all students and staff.

Beyond academics, we remain committed to developing the whole child. Through expanded student supports, extracurricular opportunities, athletics, ne arts, early literacy initiatives, and social-emotional learning experiences, WBSD continues to create opportunities for students to discover passions and reach their full potential.

Our commitment to early learners also remains strong. Through our Birth to Five programming, including partnerships and services that support early literacy, preschool readiness, developmental growth, and family engagement, we continue building strong foundations before students ever enter kindergarten.

Programs and opportunities available to families include:
• Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library partnership to promote early literacy through access to free books for eligible children.
• Kinder Lit Lab programming designed to support a successful transition into kindergarten.
• Early On services focused on early identi cation and developmental support for children and families.
• Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) preschool opportunities across our district.
• Family and community engagement opportunities centered on school readiness and literacy.

As superintendent, one of my greatest priorities is ensuring that every family feels connected, informed and valued. Our schools are strongest when we work together, and I encourage you to stay engaged throughout the year – attend events, connect with staff, celebrate successes, and continue partnering with us in support of our students.

The 2026–2027 school year holds incredible promise. Together, we will continue building upon our tradition of excellence and ensuring that every student is Learning and Leading for Tomorrow.
