There are many delicious and delectable choices when it comes to food and drink along the popular Ford Road corridor in Canton. Including Maverick’s, which offers a unique vibe and experience along with excellent modern American food, 50 craft beers on tap and a warm and friendly neighborhood atmosphere.

“Something for everyone is our motto,” said owner Chad Wilson. “Our goal is to offer a first-rate experience for families and kids, for a couple on a date night, for a group to watch a sporting event or for a group of people who just want to meet and hang out. That's kind of why we designed the menu the way we did and how we designed the atmosphere inside.”

Both the Canton and Woodhaven locations opened in 2019 and both have become sort of “mavericks” when it comes to creating a festive and exciting atmosphere by making guests feel like they are part of their team, regardless of the team they are rooting for on TV.

“We've got a great group of people working here,” said Wilson, who has about 50-60 employees at the Canton location. “One of the things about working in the restaurant business is you learn quickly that your people are your greatest asset, and because they are there so much, they become like your second family. We treat them exceptionally well, and because of that we still have about 60 percent of our original staff working here.”

Located in the heart of Canton at 42820 Ford Road, Maverick’s has become the place to be when there is a big game or event going on – get there early if the Lions are playing!

Maverick’s also is a popular place to go for lunch, happy hour, private parties or just to hang out with friends or meet new friends.

Wilson knows the Canton area well. A graduate of Salem High School, he earned an engineering degree at the University of Michigan but fell in love with the restaurant business and engineered his way to owning several restaurants at a young age. But there was something about Ford Road that kept calling him home.

“I always wanted this spot,” he said. “It was the last piece of dirt on Ford Road and I got to know the owner and told him to call me first if he ever decided to sell. One day we got that call and I bought it before he even listed the property.”

It’s been a huge success.

“We are doing very well,” Wilson said. “We take reservations Monday through Thursday only because we are just packed on the weekends. We do a lot of large parties too.”

The restaurant holds about 190 people while the outside patio can accommodate up to 110 guests.

The name Maverick comes from one of the owners who had a rescue dog named Maverick. And to pay homage to Maverick, they support and donate money to local animal shelters.

“We are all big dog lovers so we support local shelters and have even done a few pet adoption days where we partner with a rescue group,” Wilson said. “We even allow dogs on our patio.”
