Published in 2026 Van Buren Today First Quarter
Spring 2026

The Belleville Area Council for the Arts is accepting applications for 2026 BACA Senior Art Scholarships until May 1. Eligible applicants for the scholarships of $1,000 must be high school seniors (or home school equivalent), residing in Van Buren Township, Sumpter Township or the city of Belleville.
The scholarship award is intended to assist the winners in advancing their education. Pursuing a course in the area of art is encouraged but not required. Applications are available on the BACA website: www.bacaart.org.
Missoula Children’s Theater
BACA is proud to announce that the Missoula Children’s Theater will be returning this year with the musical “Rapunzel.” The auditions for children, entering first grade through 12th grade, will take place at McBride Middle School on July 20 at 1:00 p.m. A free summer day camp will be held at McBride July 20-24. Two performances are planned for Saturday, July 25 at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Belleville Lakeside Singers
New to BACA this year are the Belleville Lakeside Singers. This new choral group is accepting members who love to sing – no audition needed. Sunday night practices are 4-6 p.m. at Faith Community Church in Belleville. Their spring concert will be Sunday, May 17 at 5:00 p.m.
Classic Film Series
BACA is co-sponsoring a free classic film series with the Friends of the Library on the second Thursday of each month at the Belleville Area District Library. John Monaghan, a former film critic for the Detroit Free Press, will introduce the films and lead discussions after the movies. Mark your calendars for March 12 and April 9 at 6:00 p.m. Look for more information on the classic films coming to the Belleville Library at www.belleville.lib.mi.us.
Music Lakeside
Music Lakeside is preparing for its 17th year of outstanding performances on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m., late June through August at Horizon Park. The committee is seeking sponsorships, with individual and business names included on ads and stage banner.
