Since Stroh’s Ice Cream Parlour opened as a family business in June 1992, it has been a beloved staple in the Downriver community. where every customer can satisfy their sweet tooth with a large variety of ice cream to choose from.
Owner Kirsten Labadie took over the business in 2021, and has since added exciting new offerings while staying true to the nostalgic charm that has made Stroh’s a local favorite.
Stroh’s on the Go
Recently Stroh’s has expanded its horizons with a new mobile ice cream offering dubbed “Stroh’s on the Go.”
“We bought a mobile chest freezer so we can cater different events, wedding events, graduation parties, things like that,” Labadie said.
Whether it’s a big celebration or intimate gathering, the mobile freezer is the perfect addition to make any event extra special with Stroh’s signature ice cream.
This year, in partnership with Frank’s Pizza, Stroh’s will be bringing their ice cream cart to the streets during the Wyandotte Street Art Fair.
Private parties in the parlor
Stroh’s offers more than just a place to come in, sit down and get ice cream – they host private events for those looking for a smaller, more personal experience paired with sweet treats.
The shop can accommodate up to 35 people, whether it’s a birthday party, a small shower, retirement celebration or other intimate get-together.
In addition to celebrations, Stroh’s hosts community groups, such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, as well as women in business and how to make ice cream demonstrations.
Flavors of the moment
One of the hallmarks of Stroh’s is their rotating “flavors of the moment.” Unlike your typical monthly or weekly specials, these flavors are driven by customer preference, with popular choices like banana cream pie and coffee Oreo becoming so popular they made it into regular rotation.
Some seasonal flavors, like peppermint, are so popular they often sell out shortly after release.
“I can’t keep peppermint long enough,” Labadie said. “I’ll order as many peppermint candies as I can get and it’s always the first one to run out.”
Flavors of the moment depend on customer demand and are always made in quantities of eight tubs, so customers are always getting fresh ice cream.
Custom cakes
No celebration is complete without a cake, and Stroh’s brings a special twist to the traditional birthday treat. The parlor offers custom ice cream cakes, which have been brought back to the delight of new and returning customers.
Available in a variety of flavor combinations, from chocolate blueberry pie and praline pecan to bear claw and super rainbow, these cakes are perfect for any occasion and can be personalized in any way possible. Stroh’s requires 72 hours’ notice for its custom cakes but has one or two generic ice cream cake flavors, like vanilla Oreo, that are readily available for purchase.
While Stroh’s has added new and exciting offerings, the heart of the business remains the same as it has for decades, with a commitment to quality ice cream and customer satisfaction.
