Success Virtual Learning Centers of Michigan in Taylor provides high school students throughout Downriver with the flexibility to complete coursework on their terms and their time.

The Downriver Center is one of the 11 centers across the state contributing to the academic achievement of thousands of students across Michigan ages 14-21 and last year, they graduated one third of their student population.

“We want to help Downriver families learn and know that there are other options besides their school district’s virtual program,” said center director Lynne Nowicki.

For some students, sitting in a traditional classroom just doesn’t work.

Success Virtual Learning Centers of Michigan provides a place for students to “follow their own path, thrive on their own schedule and shine with one-on-one support.”

Students receive a learning plan that’s tailored to their specific goals, schedule and academic needs taught by compassionate, highly qualified teachers that are dedicated to each student’s success.

Credit recovery

In addition to virtual learning during the regular school year, Success Virtual Learning offers a summer credit recovery program for students who are already enrolled in the school, and those in local schools with their district’s approval.

Many school districts offer their own summer school programs that come with a fee, but at Success Virtual Learning, the six-week programs are completely free of charge.

If students have fallen behind in the school year, they can recover their credits remotely on their own schedule with support by in-person teachers at the Center whenever they need it.

There is no charge for any student to participate in the program, but they will need to provide their own technology, including a computer and internet access.

“Students from local districts who would like to enroll in the summer credit recovery program fill out a short form, which their school counselor signs, confirming that their district will accept our credits, then they’re able to enroll and we register them for classes their counselor says for them to take,” Nowicki said.

After students complete the material, it is sent back to their school for the credits to be added to their transcripts and they can return to school when it’s time.

“We specialize in helping students who are behind in credits or potentially unable to graduate on time, to graduate on time or as close to it as possible,” Nowicki said. “We’re a good fit for kids who just don’t fit the mold of regular school.”

Students can recover up to two courses each summer. Summer courses will be completed June 12-July 28 and the last day to enroll in the summer session is July 1.

Success Virtual Learning is located at 24680 Eureka Road, Taylor, MI 48180, and open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. For more information or to enroll in the summer session, call (616) 794-6329 or email enroll@successmichigan.org.
