The Mill is Wyandotte’s newest physical therapy and fitness studio, offering boutique-style fitness classes, physical therapy and personal training, led by a team of expert instructors who are committed to helping you no matter what stage of your health journey you are in.
When clients walk into the studio located at 1207 Eureka, they are greeted by a calming, warm atmosphere and the smell of sandalwood, a drastic difference compared to what most people envision when they think of the gym or medical office.
Founded by Hannah and Lucas Mills, the studio’s mission is to “educate, empower and catalyze positive change through a client-centered, holistic approach that embraces movement as medicine.”
Hannah Mills is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who specializes in women’s health and pelvic floor therapy but treats musculoskeletal impairments from head to toe. Prior to their opening in October, Mills worked in a traditional insurance-based outpatient physical therapy setting and noticed systemic gaps that were preventing her clients from reaching their maximum potential, which inspired the move to create her own practice rooted in values she truly believed in.
“Most insurance-based PT clinics and larger fitness studios today operate like a modern-day mill, trying to see as many clients as possible,” Mills said. “Our studio name contradicts that exact concept because we value quality over quantity and individualized care.”
At the Mill, all small group classes are capped between six and eight people to ensure everyone gets individualized feedback yet also feels the support of a community setting. This approach to training is called boutique fitness.
“We like to say that we’re not your ‘run of the Mill’ experience when it comes to health and fitness. We aspire to be different with our approach rooted in science,” Mills said.
Even the team at The Mill is special – every trainer and practitioner is highly qualified, with a background in holistic health and exercise science, in addition to being a group fitness instructor.
“We’re all about getting people moving no matter what season of life they’re in – men, women, expecting and postpartum women, aging adults, kids, those with special needs, and more,” Mills said. “All are welcome in our space.”
The Mill is all about community, both inside and outside of the studio. Both Hannah and Lucas are Wyandotte natives who returned to plant roots back in the city they grew up in.
“My husband and I graduated from Roosevelt, and we were high school sweethearts,” she said, explaining that after finishing undergrad at the University of Michigan and grad school in Texas, she came back to Wyandotte where the couple bought their first house.
“We really wanted to give back to the community that gave us so much by helping them embrace movement as medicine and feel empowered by their health,” Mills said. “That’s exactly why we felt called to open this space in Wyandotte.”
With their commitment to helping the community get stronger, the Mill offers your first class FREE if you simply send them an email at themillmichigan@gmail.com. For more information on their class schedule and to see all of their service offerings, visit www.themillmichigan.com.
