Many people don't realize that Wyandotte has a sister city relationship with Komaki, Japan, that was established in 1963 and includes periodic exchanges of delegates to learn about each other's cities and culture. Many more people don't realize that Wyandotte has a wide variety of outstanding restaurants, including the very popular The Sushi Bar located in the heart of downtown at 130 Maple Street.

The Sushi Bar, a hidden gem that transports you straight to the streets of Tokyo, is owned and operated by world-renowned sushi chef, Sushi Mike (Mazloum), and is a destination for sushi lovers from all over the state.

Mazloum is becoming well known for serving what he calls New Age Sushi and it’s been extremely popular with his growing customer base.

“The American culture introduced new age into Sushi,” he said. “It’s a new style and makes the sushi look more beautiful, more elegant, more fresh. We used to be more traditional back in the day but we have become more new age and the people love it. It’s more favorable and that’s what Americans like, and I’ve been all over the world and the best food in the world is in America.”

And some of the best sushi is in Wyandotte.

“People loved what we were doing right away and still love coming here,” Mazloum said. “They like the fish and appreciate the quality and enjoy the entertainment. Everyone loves to come to Sushi Bar. Sushi is one of the healthiest things you can eat and all our sushi comes from the sea and most of our inventory comes fresh from Japan overnight.”

The Sushi Bar shuts down between lunch and dinner in order to refresh the inventory. They don’t serve the same sushi they served for lunch for dinner in order to keep it as fresh as possible.

Mazloum said Wyandotte was the perfect location for his restaurant.

“The people here in Wyandotte are beautiful people,” he said. “The community really supports each other, especially the small businesses. The people who live here and come here want to see the city thriving. Wyandotte has such a great variety of restaurants that it’s become a food destination.”

As you walk into the restaurant, you're enveloped by the warm, inviting aroma of freshly cooked rice and sizzling fish. The intimate atmosphere of the restaurant, with just a handful of seats at the sushi bar, creates an ambiance that is both authentic and intimate.

The Sushi Bar offers a variety of sushi rolls to satisfy all palates, including the popular Toro tuna, Salmon Detroit roll, Home Depot roll, Super Star roll, and Yummy Yummy roll. The Sushi Bar also carries one of the largest Sake inventories in Michigan including Tozai Sake, Kokuryu Sake and Juyodai Sake.

Guests can enjoy their favorite cocktails with their sushi, or opt for a glass of sake to complement the flavors of their meal. They also serve up a wide selection of Japanese Whiskey, single malt and many of the popular Japanese beers.

As you sit at the sushi bar and indulge in the artfully crafted dishes, Mazloum and his team of expert sushi chefs take you on a journey through the flavors of Japan. Each bite is a celebration of the freshest ingredients, sourced from trusted suppliers and carefully prepared with skill and precision.

“We opened in 2010 and chose Wyandotte for many reasons,” Mazloum said. “One because it’s a sister city of Komaki, Japan, and there is a lot of Japanese culture in the area. We have been successful though because of the people of Wyandotte and our amazing customers who come from all over to enjoy The Sushi Bar.”
