Students across the district are benefiting from newly renovated library media centers (LMCs) and kitchens, thanks to the 2021 bond issue!
The latest renovations took place over the summer at Buchanan Elementary, Grant Elementary, Johnson Upper Elementary and Churchill High School. These modernized spaces were thoughtfully designed to support collaboration, creativity and hands-on learning, reflecting how students learn best today.
Each new LMC features flexible classrooms built directly into the space, allowing teachers to seamlessly transition between whole-group instruction, small-group work and independent learning. Vibrant color palettes energize the environment, while flexible furniture allows for easy configurations for various purposes. The result is an inviting, adaptable space that encourages engagement, communication and collaboration.
At Churchill High School, the renovated LMC goes even further. Students now have access to dedicated learning labs for tutoring and academic support, flexible classrooms for small-group instruction and a state-of-the-art media production studio that supports digital storytelling and multimedia projects. The space also includes a room dedicated to Churchill’s esports program, providing students with opportunities to develop teamwork, strategy and technical skills in a rapidly growing field.
At the elementary level, each LMC includes an idea factory – an innovative space where students design, build and experiment. These areas immerse learners in the STEM curriculum, fostering problem-solving, creativity and collaboration from an early age.
These renovations represent phase 4 of 5 in the district’s 2021, $185 million bond issue approved by voters. Looking ahead, next summer’s bond projects will include renovated LMCs and kitchens at Niji-Iro Japanese Immersion Elementary and Webster Elementary, along with various improvements at Garfield Community School.
The district is deeply grateful to the community for its continued support. Thanks to this investment, Livonia public school buildings remain updated, inspiring and functional – meeting the needs of today’s students while keeping an eye toward the future.
