In July of 2025, David Dixson acquired the store – previously known as Saxton’s Power Equipment – inheriting a legacy of over 90 years.

For Dixson, the world of outdoor equipment isn’t just about a job or business venture, it’s a culmination of what he’s been building since he was a child growing up in Livonia.

In 2012, David officially launched his first business, Dixson Outdoor Landscaping, with many of his local customers remembering him as the kid who went door to door, dragging his push mower in a wagon behind his bike.

As Dixson’s business grew, so did his desire to want to do more in the industry outside of service, and purchasing an outdoor equipment store was a large step in that direction. It has truly become a family business with the entire Dixson crew, including his wife, Lindsey, and two boys, who have adapted to their own roles at the store. Son Theo, who is 6 years old, even has his own vending machine featured in the showroom.

“He stocks it with favorites of our regulars and staff, and it’s his own project he's taken on since we acquired the store,” Lindsey said.

One way that the store has implemented the “Dixson Difference” is by improving the customer experience from a landscaper’s perspective.

“I have an industry background of knowing how it feels to not be taken care of, so we’ve been trying to make policies to get landscapers in and out faster, offer better support and ensure parts are in stock,” David said.
