Continued addition of e-resources drives increase in resident engagement

livonia public library
Last year was an exceptional one for the Livonia Public Library, and we’re proud to share some of our highlights and accomplishments.

More than 658,000 physical and digital items were checked out in 2025, a slight increase over 2024, largely driven by expanded use of our digital collections.

With a Livonia Library card, patrons enjoy 24/7 access to e-books, audiobooks, magazines, movies, music, and more through Libby, Hoopla, Kanopy, and other online resources, as well as traditional materials at our libraries, making the library available anytime, anywhere.

Library visits topped 204,000, a 6 percent increase from 2024. Whether you stopped by to borrow a book, attend a program, find a quiet place to read or work, or simply say hello, our libraries continued to serve as vibrant community hubs.

We closed out 2025 with over 27,500 Livonia Library cardholders, showing just how many residents are taking advantage of all the library has to offer.

Our programs drew in nearly 31,000 attendees across almost 1,000 programs throughout the year. One highlight was our annual One City, One Book program, which welcomed more than 500 participants to programs exploring life in the 1950s Midwest and “The All American” by Susie Finkbeiner.

Did you know?

With your Livonia Library card, you can enjoy digital access anytime, anywhere. This includes e-books, audiobooks, streaming movies and TV, and specialized learning tools. In the past year, we added new resources such as Mango Languages, offering instruction in more than 70 world languages and dialects; and PressReader, which provides access to thousands of newspapers and magazines from around the world – all free with your library card!

We also launched our new mobile app, making it easier than ever to access library services on the go. Alongside our growing collection of e-resources, digital usage increased significantly, reflecting how the library continues to evolve to offer more ways for people to use the library, both in person and online.

The library card design contest was a celebration of creativity and how our library connects with the community, cohosted with the Livonia Arts Commission for the city’s 75th anniversary. With 83 submissions from residents and students of all ages, the contest showcased wonderful creative talent. The winning designs are now available as limited-edition library cards.

Even our delivery and outreach vehicle received a refresh this year, sporting an eye-catching new wrap design you may spot around town and at community events.

Thank you for being part of another successful year at the Livonia Public Library!
