South Lyon Police Honor 2025 Officer of the Year

The city of South Lyon is one of the safest in the state, and it’s no wonder, when it has the likes of 21-year Police Department veteran Travis Stevens on the job.
Recently Officer Stevens earned the honor of being named 2025 Officer of the Year. His role in implementing the department’s drone program was just one of the reasons.
“He has taken the responsibility of making sure that the drone operators receive sufficient training with equipment and the drone is maintained properly,” said Sergeant Chris Faught.
Officer Stevens’ responsibilities in the program included direct involvement in implementing policy and guidelines for use of the drone.
The drone was recently instrumental in locating a missing disoriented person.
Officer Stevens, who grew up in the Lansing area, received a lifesaving award for his quick and decisive actions at the scene of a traffic accident in which the driver was not breathing. He had to break out a window, put the car in park, pull the victim from the car and administer CPR.
Officer Stevens also spent several days assisting with a lengthy and difficult Freedom of Information Act request, requiring him to view and edit several hours of video. He regularly assists Detective Audra Baker with investigations, and recently assisted in criminal charges of several thefts from vehicles.
Officer Stevens is very detail-oriented and regularly picks up on intricate details that others miss. He also brings forth new ideas for improving operations of the department, and has been helpful in teaching and mentoring the recent influx of new officers to the department.
The South Lyon Police Department is fortunate to have an officer like Travis Stevens amongst its ranks, and folks can sleep a little better at night knowing he’s on the job and ready to jump in when needed.
