At the Brownstown Township Police Department, we believe in more than just enforcing the law – we believe in being part of the community we serve. That’s why our social media presence (especially on Facebook) is a key tool for transparency, outreach and connection. We’ve recently seen how powerful these platforms can be – not only for sharing news but for building goodwill and achieving real results.

One example: a post about a lost child caught the attention of over 100,000 people, leading to the child’s parents being located quickly. That kind of engagement – people sharing, commenting, caring – demonstrates how social media can help us collaborate with residents directly.

Similarly, we recently posted a tribute to longtime supporter Randy Fritz, highlighting his many contributions and dedication to the department. The public response was heartwarming – people shared memories, expressed condolences and recognized his impact on Brownstown.

Another post that resonated was our announcement of the 2024 National Association of Canine Handlers award for our narcotics detection K-9 team – Ofc. Nick Walker and K9 Bane. Celebrating achievements like that doesn’t just inform – it shows the professionalism and dedication of officers behind the badge and gives folks tangible reasons to be proud of their police force.

But those aren’t isolated successes. Here are a few more posts we’ve used to drive engagement and trust:

• A post about a young non-verbal child found wandering (wearing Spider-Man pajamas) created a surge of shares and comments, with people reaching out to help share the child’s description and reunite them with family.
• We’ve posted alerts for missing persons or unidentified individuals, asking the public to help by calling with information.
• Community support posts – such as a fundraiser for the son of a Brownstown detective fighting cancer – How Brownstown Police is building trust, one social media post at a time By Deputy Chief Andrew Starzec Safer, Stronger, More Connected also draw strong engagement as the public rallies around one of their own.
• Of course, we occasionally take the opportunity to give our brothers and sisters on the red team a hard time through funny posts and healthy banter.

What these successful posts have in common: They are human, they invite participation, they tell stories, they celebrate wins.

We want to see more of Facebook’s algorithms favoring helpful, positive content – and you can help! If you’re not already following Brownstown Twp Police on Facebook, we’d be honored to have you join us. Share our posts, comment, ask questions, and be part of the conversation. When more people engage, our reach grows – and then we can help more people, faster.

By strengthening this digital connection, we aim not only to inform you, but to partner with you. Whether it's solving a case, reuniting a child with their parents, honoring community supporters, or simply being transparent about what we do, our Facebook page is a place for community. That’s where the public safety mission truly succeeds – when the people we serve are also participants in protecting and uplifting our shared home.

Thank you for your support. Please follow, share and stay engaged, because together, we’re safer, stronger and more connected than ever.
