Greater Detroit Auto Auction (GDAA), Michigan’s largest public auto auction site, has been taking the stress out of buying and selling pre-owned vehicles for almost two decades, and business has never been greater as they drive toward two impressive milestones.

“We’re excited to be approaching our 20th anniversary next year in Brownstown Township, and our 75,000th vehicle sold this month,” said General Manager Jeff Karpinski. “At GDAA, we believe that buying or selling a vehicle should be fun, exciting and rewarding – not stressful. We invite everyone to visit for free, experience the energy of the auction and see firsthand how easy and enjoyable the process can be.”

Since opening in June 2006, GDAA has experienced tremendous growth over the past 19 years. Advances in technology have transformed the way vehicles are bought and sold, both in person and online, allowing the business to continually enhance and simplify the customer experience.

“Today, we’re proud to offer an exciting, convenient and seamless way to purchase vehicles – whether you join us live at the auction or from the comfort of your home,”

Karpinski said. “Whether you’re just curious or ready to take the plunge, you can explore, learn and get a feel for the action at your own pace. And when the time comes to raise your hand or click that bid button, GDAA will be here to guide you every step of the way.”

Every Saturday, Greater Detroit Auto Auction features a wide variety of cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, motorcycles, RVs, boats, and more, offering vehicles from credit unions, municipalities, charities, dealerships, and private sellers. Both dealers and the general public are welcome to buy and sell.

Every Friday, GDAA hosts a vehicle preview and inspection from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors are welcome to take their time inspecting vehicles, and GDAA’s staff is onsite to answer any questions about the auction process. Saturday is Auction Day! Doors open at 8 a.m., and the auction kicks off at 10 a.m. The auction is completely free to register and attend, with GDAA acting as agents for the sellers.

Karpinski has been with GDAA since the first car sold back in 2006. With roots in the automobile industry dating to 1998, he first gained hands-on experience at an auto auction in Port Huron.

“Building on that foundation, we proudly launched the Greater Detroit Auto Auction in 2006 in Brownstown, where our commitment to exceptional service continues today,” he said.

GDAA’s original location opened in 2006 on Telegraph Road in Brownstown.

“In 2020, when the opportunity arose to relocate, we chose to stay right here in Brownstown – a community that has supported our growth from the very beginning,”

Karpinski said. “We’re proud to have built a strong partnership with Brownstown Township, hosting numerous events, concerts, surplus auctions, and more over the years.”
Karpinski offers some advice for those interested in attending an auction.

“Make the most of our preview hours, and get hands-on with the vehicles, look them over carefully, and know exactly what you’re bidding on,” he said. “Do your homework, check vehicle values and history reports, which are available at the auction, and let GDAA provide the tools and insights you need to bid with confidence.”
