Offering kids’ clothing and items sustainably and affordably
By Kelsi Klein

Since opening its doors in July 2019, Children’s Orchard has become a Downriver destination for children’s clothing.
As part of the NTY (New to You) Franchise Company, Children's Orchard brings a fresh take on children’s resale, giving customers the opportunity to purchase like-new clothes, shoes, accessories, toys, books and more along with the option to sell their own gently used items.
Owner Tracy Allen explained that Children’s Orchard is a little bit different than consignment.
“We pay cash on the spot for great condition, in-style items that our customers are looking for,” she said. “You don’t have to wait for your items to be sold to collect your payout.”
In addition to cash payouts, Children’s Orchard offers a store credit payout that gives customers 25 percent more than a cash offer, making it a great option for those looking to outfit their kids in the next size, or whatever else they may need for their growing families, as affordably as possible.
After working as a manager in big box retail for 30 years, Allen decided it was time for a change of scenery.
“After much soul searching, my husband and I decided to start our own business,” she said.
The couple decided that this kind of business just made sense to them, and as lifelong Downriver residents, they felt it was a business that the community needed.
“Having children of our own, we understand the need and value of having a store like ours in the community where hardworking families sometimes work hard to make their money stretch further,” Allen said.
Children’s Orchard is stocked with like-new kids clothing in sizes preemie to youth 16, shoes, toys and equipment up to 70 percent off mall prices. Customers can find trending items from brands like Adidas, Baby Bjorn, Crocs, Levi’s, Nike, Patagonia, Ralph Lauren and so many more without breaking the bank.
The heart of Children’s Orchard isn’t just great deals – it’s rooted in sustainability.
“We’re passionate about recycling and reusing gently used items and doing our part to create a more sustainable footprint for the families that live and work in this community,” Allen said.
As a small, family-owned business that is invested in the community and dedicated to giving back, Children’s Orchard sponsors youth little league teams, donates to local school fundraisers, supports local food banks and local charities like Helping Hands, Downriver Foster Closet, Purple Heart and so many more.
Whether families come into the store to sell their outgrown clothes, shop for their children’s next growth spurt or support a business that gives back, Children’s Orchard’s roots are planted in the community and will continue to grow alongside the families they serve.
